Navagraha Puja: Understanding the 9 Planets in Vedic Astrology and Their Impact on Your Life

In Vedic astrology (Jyotish Shastra), the Navagraha or nine celestial bodies hold supreme importance. These nine planets govern every aspect of human existence – from health and wealth to relationships and spiritual evolution. Understanding the Navagraha and performing their puja with devotion can bring balance, prosperity, and peace into your life.

What are the Navagraha?

The word “Navagraha” comes from Sanskrit – “Nava” meaning nine and “Graha” meaning celestial body or that which grasps/influences. Unlike Western astronomy, Vedic astrology includes the Sun, Moon, and the two lunar nodes (Rahu and Ketu) as grahas, while excluding Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

Each Graha rules specific aspects of life, governs certain zodiac signs, and has associated colours, gemstones, mantras, and days of the week. Their placement in your birth chart (Kundli) determines the flow of karmic energies in your life.
